: I was poised to purchase a shaker madcat for a gift for a harmonica player, but resisted due to the price. Can anyone tell me if it is worth it? The website makes it sound like the best one to use...imagine that. I would rather have my friend by satisfied with the mic than be cheap. She currently has no mic to use with her MD4 midi board.
The Shaker "madcat" is a sweeeet mic for playing acoustic style, optimizing the hand dynamics. If this is the style she plays in, go for it!
If she wishes to attempted to reproduce the classic Chicago Blues sound, a bullet mic would be perhaps better(and cheaper).
The Madcat is a great mic, Harmonica players love great mics of all forms. Recommended bullet mics in my opinion are Astatic jt30's, green bullets, and Shaker Dynamic's.
I hope this helps.
