: I have been playing the blue's harp (c) for a while, but I want to play some bluegrass and or country, maybe rock too in local jam sessions. How do I determine what keys to play in. and, what are a few of the keys I should buy to begin on some nwe stuff?
Your "C" harp should be great for cross-harping with a country band playing in the key of "G".
If the band is playing something like "Folsom Prison" in "C", you can give an "F" harp a good workout. In other words, unless you are soloing, find out what key the band favors and cross-harp to that. Basic cross-harp:
harp - a b c d e f g
key - e f g a b c d
Anything more than this is over my head, so maybe an expert will add to this. ........j
