Hohner 64X Chromatic Problem

I play several chromatics. My most recent one is a Hohner 64X. I feel that the sound quality is not correct. When I press down on the mounth piece the sound becomes slighly deeper and is more pleasant.
Normally the sound in the middle of the harmonica is a little ragged. Could this be an air leak or sealing problem? Anyone have suggestions on cleaning up this sound.
