I'm sorry to say the problem is always poor playing technique. If you are "accidentally" bending 5 draw constantly, you are putting stress on the reed which will cause an early demise. Once the reed goes bad, typically with a hairline crack, it can't be fixed, only replaced. You need to improve your bending and breathing techniques to solve your problem.

: Can anyone out there explain why the 5 draw on several harmonicas has ceased to work. It doesn't go flat, just stops vibrating altogether and no amount of filing etc. makes any difference. In some cases this has occurred a few weeks after purchase.
